Half Term Ideas for the West Midlands

From theatre shows to pop parties and woodland adventures to puppet making workshops, there’s plenty to choose from in Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and Solihull. So here is a guide to what’s on for families in Birmingham during February half term 2025. 

 The Seven Ravens at Smethwick Heritage Centre – 15 Feb – 4.00pm

The audience is taken on a tiny world adventure over an extraordinary, felted landscape as Ada unlocks the secret the Raven is trying to tell her. Ages 6+.

Flying With Strings at Smethwick Library – 16 Feb – 11.00am

Inspired by the avian world of Britain, Europe and beyond, this interactive show features intricate string puppetry and live music. Ages 1+.

Beached at West Smethwick Park Pavillion -16 Feb -11.00am, 1.00pm, 3.00pm

One table, one puppet, one big adventure!  Put on our headphones and enter a magical world. Beached is a 15-minute show for all the family. Multiple time slots are available. Ages 2+.

Total Pop Party at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall – 17 Feb – 2.30pm-4.30pm

An excellent introduction for kids who are too young to go to the big concerts but don’t want to miss out on seeing their favourite pop stars, suitable for all ages.

The Giant Who Slept for 10000 Years at St Hilda’s Church, Smethwick – 17 Feb – 3.00pm

A storytelling puppet show in a suitcase about our relationship to nature, friendship and places we call home. Ages 3+.

Fish Puppet Making Workshop at West Smethwick Park Pavilion – 16 Feb -11.00am, 1.00pm, 3.00pm

Make your own fish puppet with Lori Hopkins. Drop-in. Ages 3+.

Anansi and the Lost Sun at Smethwick Library – 18 Feb – 2.00pm

 

A funny, inspiring & entertaining West African tale mixing puppetry & traditional West African Music. Ages 4+.

Toy Puppet Theatre Making Workshop at Bearwood Baptist Church Hall

18 Feb – 11.00am-1.00pm

Join a drop-in workshop to create a cardboard toy theatre.

Family Woodland Adventure at Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens – 18-20 Feb

Learn about fire making and have a go with a fire striker, then toast your own marshmallows to enjoy between chocolate biscuits.

Nutcracker in Spring at Lightwoods House, Smethwick – 19 Feb

The show features ballet-dancing puppets, a sinister Mouse King, an abundance of flowers and plenty more surprises.

The Tale of Nobody Nose at Brushstrokes Community Project, Smethwick – 19 Feb 3.30pm

Imaginative, wordless storytelling, skilful puppetry and classic clowning combine to delight audiences. Ages 5+.

The Tale of Nobody Nose at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton – 19 Feb 11.30am & 2.30pm

This accessible, fun-filled production promises to warm the heart whilst making you laugh out loud. Book online.

Family Hapa Zome Workshop at Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens – 19-20 Feb

You will be introduced to Hapa Zome with a demonstration from an instructor. Create your own Hapa Zome to take home with you. Ages 5-13.

Cinderella at Birmingham Hippodrome – 19 Feb–1 Mar

Step into the magical world of Cinderella, where Fairy Godmothers triumph over cruel stepmothers, pumpkins turn into sparkling carriages and a jewelled slipper changes one young woman’s life forever. Ages 5+

Zombie Prom at Aldebrook School, Solihull – 20-22 Feb

This girl-loves-ghoul rock ’n’ roll off-Broadway musical, presented by SOSage Factory, is set in the atomic 1950s at Enrico Fermi High, where the law is laid down by a zany, tyrannical principal. Suitable for all ages.

Fireman Sam – The Great Camping Adventure at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre – 21 Feb

With Norman left stranded in a cave it’s up to Fireman Sam to save the day and ensure everyone is safe on their camping adventure.

Tiny Clown’s BIG adventure at Dorothy Parkes Centre – 22 Feb 11.00am and 2.00pm

Tiny clown loves teetering on a wire high above a cage of ferocious kiwi fruit, but maybe it’s time for a change of scenery? Ages 3+.
