The Robert Oulsnam and Company office on the Hagley Road is our closest to the city centre of Birmingham and has been operating since 2002. The office stands on the bustling Hagley Road, one of the main thoroughfares on the way to the city centre at the junction with Bearwood Road. I have used Robert Oulsnam (Hagley Road) twice now in 2014 to sell a house and again this year. Both times I dealt mainly with Ben and Becky and they were extremely helpful throughout the whole experience of selling our house, which was a difficult experience due the buyer dragging their feet at various stages of the sale. With Ben and Becky you do not get the feeling they are just chasing the sale and have genuine interest in achieving the best price possible. When we finally completed on the sale I was away on holiday, there were a couple of last minute glitches and Ben dealt with all these in my absence (not sure this would happen with an online estate agent)
Although I mainly dealt with Ben and Becky, all the staff at Hagley Road branch are knowledgeable, return phones calls promptly, chase up viewings and are able to offer great advice. - Mr C

The Oulsnam office on the Hagley Road manages and sells properties in the areas of Bearwood, Smethwick, Edgbaston, Harborne, Oldbury, Quinton and parts of the city centre of Birmingham. These areas were some of the earliest suburbs of the city from the 19th century to the south and west of the city centre and remain hugely popular with families. The property types available range considerably, from Victorian terraces, Victorian and Edwardian villas, suburban houses from the 1920s and 1930s, to smart modern apartment blocks which are much favoured by young professionals, keen to take advantage of the proximity to the commercial, business, and cultural centre of the city.
Bearwood forms part of Smethwick lying just off the Hagley Road, on the edge of Birmingham.
Before the late 18th century it was an outlying hamlet of the South Staffordshire village of Harborne; a district of scattered cottages and small farms, country lanes, heaths and woodland. There were nail makers and blacksmiths from at least the mid16th century.
In the 1760s it was decided that a canal should be cut through Smethwick to carry coal more speedily from the Black Country to the booming industries of Birmingham. The coming of the railway in 1852 alongside the canal, together with the availability nearby of raw materials such as coal and iron saw a major expansion of Smethwick as it became of such importance as a manufacturing centre.
Bearwood now has a cosmopolitan shopping area along the high street otherwise known as Bearwood Road. Bearwood is particularly well known for the fine selection of Edwardian and Victorian homes, terraced, semi-detached and detached which have mostly been improved and provide superb character homes.
Lightwoods House and Park is located in Bearwood and lies across the Hagley Road, close to the border of Birmingham. The park and house had major renovation project carried out and re-opened in 2017. This was National Lottery and Sandwell Council funded. The park itself is home to the historic bandstand and the popular skate park, which provides a fantastic place for children to explore and have fun. Lightwoods House is Grade II-listed and was restored to its 18th century glory. The house now includes a modern tea room community centres and offers an idyllic backdrop for functions and weddings. The surrounding ‘Shakespeare Gardens’ also had a major uplift and were completely transformed, providing a peaceful escape from busy day to day life.
Other important areas include the delightful Warley Park, known locally as Warley Woods and Golf Course, offering recreational walks and memberships to the course.
