West Midlands Rail Connectivity

Rail travel across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands has seen significant development recently, with new stations opening and further investment planned to improve regional connectivity. These upgrades are aimed at improving links between residential areas, city centres, and surrounding towns.

New stations now open in South Birmingham

One of the most significant recent developments is the reopening of the Camp Hill Line, which has reintroduced passenger services to parts of South Birmingham for the first time in over 80 years.

Three newly opened stations now serve the area:

  • Moseley Village
  • Kings Heath
  • Pineapple Road (Stirchley)

These stations provide direct links into Birmingham New Street, with regular services running throughout the week, significantly improving access into the city centre from surrounding neighbourhoods.

Restored connections in the wider West Midlands

In addition to the Camp Hill Line reopening, further stations have also recently opened or been reinstated across the region, including:

  • Willenhall
  • Darlaston

These stations form part of a wider £185 million investment programme to reconnect communities that had been without rail services for decades.

Improved links across Birmingham and Warwickshire

The wider rail network continues to provide strong connections between Birmingham and key surrounding areas, including:

  • Solihull and Coventry
  • Walsall and Wolverhampton
  • Warwickshire towns such as Leamington Spa, Warwick, and Stratford-upon-Avon

These routes support both commuter travel and regional connectivity, with frequent services into Birmingham city centre and beyond.

Ongoing investment in regional rail

Transport authorities continue to invest in improving capacity, reliability, and accessibility across the network. This includes upgraded stations, improved passenger facilities, and new infrastructure projects designed to support long-term growth in demand.

Further expansion plans are also under consideration as part of wider regional transport strategies.
