Summer Days Out for Families

Fun, affordable adventures to enjoy this July and August!

School’s out and the sun’s (hopefully!) shining — so it’s the perfect time to explore the West Midlands with the family. Whether you’re entertaining little ones or planning a full family day out, here are some brilliant ideas to make the most of the summer holidays.

  1. Warwick Castle

Step back in time with spectacular live shows, interactive exhibits and beautiful gardens. The Zog Playland is perfect for younger children, while older ones will love the dungeons and birds of prey displays.
Top tip: Book online in advance for discounts.

  1. West Midland Safari Park – Bewdley

Drive through the safari to see rhinos, lions, and elephants up close. Then spend the afternoon exploring the adventure park, land of the living dinosaurs, and African village.

Under-3s go free!

  1. Severn Valley Railway – Kidderminster to Bridgnorth

All aboard! This vintage steam railway offers a charming journey through the countryside, with fun family events like character days and teddy bear picnics.
Pack a picnic or stop at one of the quaint station cafés.

  1. Lickey Hills Country Park – Near Birmingham

If you’re after a low-cost day in nature, the Lickey Hills have you covered. With trails, play areas, and panoramic views, it’s ideal for walking, cycling or just relaxing outdoors.
Parking is free, and there are plenty of picnic spots.

  1. Thinktank Science Museum – Birmingham

Perfect for a rainy day! Thinktank is packed with hands-on exhibits, a planetarium, and the brilliant MiniBrum play city for kids under 8.
Located near Millennium Point in Birmingham city centre.

  1. Hatton Adventure World – Warwickshire

From farm animals and funfair rides to a maize maze and indoor play, Hatton is great for younger kids. Seasonal events run throughout summer, too.
Annual passes available if you live nearby.
