Bournville Team

Bournville lies about four miles to the south of Birmingham City Centre. It is one of the most attractive suburbs of the City and is amongst the most desirable places to live within the UK. Packed with green spaces and attractive housing, Bournville is indelibly linked with the Cadbury family and their chocolate factory. The Arts and Crafts style houses and mock-Tudor terraces that form much of Bournville are most sought after and the area still maintains its village feel.

Part of Bournville is managed by the Bournville Village Trust and includes a conservation area at the heart of the Village and, as it is such a popular place to live, the value of property is much higher than the surrounding areas.

Transport Links and Location

There are good public transport links with buses and the Bournville train station lies on the cross-city line between Lichfield and Redditch. Bournville is located just 15 minutes from Birmingham New Street Station by train. The A38 road linking Birmingham city centre to Bristol also runs through the area, and it is only a few miles from Junction 2 on the M42 motorway. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and University of Birmingham are also close by.

Facilities and Amenities

Bournville hosts a variety independent retailers such as an organic butcher, coffee shops, chemist and a wool shop. Nearby, there is the Battery Retail Park providing a variety of larger retailers.  Maintaining its community-led, village feel, there is a Community Hub located at the Village Green, and Rowheath Pavilion and Park, a not-for-profit organisation, host a vast programme of community events throughout the year, and Oulsnams are proud to be a sponsor of a number of them.

There are excellent primary and secondary schools in Bournville, a major sports club, and Linden Road swimming pool. One remaining legacy that dates from the Quaker Cadbury family, is that there are no pubs or takeaway food shops in Bournville.

There is a delightful selection of homes in Bournville and throughout there is a feeling of quality. They range from Victorian terrace houses, Edwardian homes and a wide range of inter war semi detached houses. More recently numerous estates have been built with a selection of quality apartments and modern houses.

Above all in Bournville is the Cadbury Factory with its world renowned chocolate and for visitors, Cadbury World offers an insight into the history of chocolate production in Bournville providing a fun family day out.

There are also a number of historic sites to visit:

The Rest House on the Village Green was built to celebrate the silver wedding of George and Elizabeth Cadbury

The Carillon Bells are the largest of their type in the country and were built by George Cadbury after he saw a similar one in Belgium

Rowheath Pavillion and sports fields were created by George Cadbury for the benefit of the Cadbury workers

Coronation Pavillion was a gift to the cricket club to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII

Selly Manor Museum dates from the 1500’s and had become derelict, it was rescued by George Cadbury who had it moved to its current site close to the Village Green and rebuilt to give a wonderful example of life in that period.
