LEAD UP TO THE YORKSHIRE THREE PEAKS CHARITY EVENT
The time has nearly arrived for our Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. On the 16th July, Laura Fiddes-Baron and Kelly Merriman will be covering 24 miles, climbing the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough all in under 12 hours.
The pair have been busy training for the last 6 months for the challenge by making sure they walk at least one lengthy walk a week covering local areas like the Clent Hills, the Malvern Hills and the Lickey Hills. They have also gone off for several weekends to climb Skiddaw and Helvellyn in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales. To build up endurance fitness they have also been swimming 60 lengths at The Dolphin Centre in Bromsgrove once a week and also pilates and yoga to help keep them supple.
Laura and Kelly are completing the challenge to raise funds for Alzheimers Society which is Oulsnam’s charity of the year 2016. Laura Fiddes- Baron, New Business Manager said “ the reason we chose to raise money for the charity is lots of us have had a personal experience of people suffering with the condition and having spoken to lots of clients they do too- it’s been quite an eye opener. We are both quite nervous about this challenge as although we have been doing lots of training, neither of us have walked that far and certainly not done 3 peaks in a day. Many of the people we have spoken to about it have attempted it but found it too hard to finish and given up half way through.”
This event comes as part of a series of events we are doing to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society- we have so far completed an Afternoon Tea event in our Barnt Green office and the Spring Wolf Run. We also have a local 10 mile walk, a swimathon, a Halloween party and a promise auction planned for the rest of the year.
For the Three Peaks they have so far raised just over £400 with their target being £600. Any sponsorship is greatly appreciated using https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Oulsnam-Lettings-3peaks or by popping in to one of their local offices.
