World Cup and Sunshine
After steady improved in the property market in Birmingham and Worcestershire in the preceding months, there is no doubt that the recent wonderful spell of sunshine together with the World Cup have had an impact on the market with particularly quiet days during England football matches and several weekends when there were few buyers or tenants for properties.
Recent surveys have indicated little change in house prices so far this year in this area but above all the numbers of sales has been steadily improving although some way off yet from the heights of 2006-07, sales are well up from the same period last year.
The budget has also seen to be relatively kind on house owners and house builders alike, although it will have a very severe impact on many areas. The Chancellor no doubt appreciated the importance of home ownership to so many people and few of his proposals will affect it. The one significant change is to capital gains where the increase was far less than had been threatened and will not affect ordinary home owners but may affect buy to let landlords. The likelihood now is to see a steadily improving market over the summer months although there may only be a very nominal increase in prices, the numbers of sales should improve.
