New Internet Site for Tenants
A new internet site to give advice to tenants and to report on lettings agents and landlords is proposed, reports Andrew Oulsnam, Managing Partner of Robert Oulsnam & Company.
Consumer Focus which is a government backed statutory body says that only 15% of tenants have any reasonable knowledge about renting a property.
In particular, many could find no information about the landlords themselves or the Letting Agent. It is proposed the site will allow comment and information to be provided about them.
Tenants could also set out their own experiences in renting a home which would help others to make a better informed decision before signing a tenancy agreement. “Reputational Regulation” works well in other sectors with commercial sites such as eBay and Amazon, display consumer reviews and feedback to people before they make a decision.
Consumer Focus is looking for an initial third party to both fund and help evaluate the site.
