How to make the right move on Rightmove!
Quick search secrets and tricks to finding hidden gems on Rightmove.
Here is a guide to show you how to find the best value buy or rent homes on Rightmove, as well as the hidden treasures and some search techniques to give you the lead over other house hunters. Rightmove is the biggest property portal in the UK, and Oulsnams are proud to be part of it. With nearly 50% more properties on it than its nearest competitor and a million homes for sale or rent on it.
Here are some ways to search for a home on Rightmove.
Standard search: Type in a location or postcode, then hit the For Sale or to rent buttons and go. You can refine your search radius, price range, and number of bedrooms, property type and when it was added to the site to filter the results.
Browse by map: Start your search for property in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, or London . To continue follow the drop down menu to focus on a specific region, town, and even parts of town see what's for sale or rent in the area.
Draw a search: Know where you want to live? Then you can see what's for sale in a very specific area using draw a search. Simply follow the instructions on screen to define an area, then either save it for later or search now to see what's on the market in the space you defined.
Seeing new homes first
As the market is getting more competitive, getting through the doors first or seeing when prices change, can make a big difference. After you've outlined the searches on Rightmove, you can not only save them, but you can get new properties that appear in them, emailed to you instantly.
The default search on Rightmove will always show price, high to low, this may not be the best way to find your new home.
The filters below will assist with your search:
- Newest listed – to view the latest price moves and entries, rather than having to go through pages of results.
- Oldest listed – you could grab a bargain if the property has been on the market for a while, or negotiate the price down.
Another knack you can use here is to increase the price range of your search, then search for oldest listed. There might be a chance that you can find something that others have missed, and negotiate the price down.
Sign up with an agent
By registering your details with an estate agent, you can be kept informed about homes that are on the market before they even appear on Rightmove. There is a separate search page on Rightmove for people looking for estate agents near their search area. This will detail a list of agents, along with phone numbers, email addresses and information on the agents themselves.
Happy house hunting!
