Bromsgrove is an attractive town in Worcestershire whose origins go all the way back to the Anglo-Saxon period. Today residents can take advantage of excellent rail links to Birmingham and Worcester, the nearby M5 and M42 motorways, and A-roads that take car drivers straight to the nearby towns of Kidderminster, Droitwich Spa, and Stourbridge. The town is home to several leading schools and colleges, including the prestigious 16th century Bromsgrove School. The town hosts a season of classical and chamber music events during the summer months, whilst cinema, comedy, and other live music are held throughout the year at the Artrix Centre.
The town of Bromsgrove lies in North Worcestershire between Worcester and Birmingham.
Bromsgrove first appears in the Doomsday book of 1086 where it was referred to as Bremesgrave. Breme meaning famous person and grave meaning a fortified clearing in a forest. In medieval times the town was a possible centre for the woollen trade with the nailmaking industry arriving in the 17th century. Bromsgrove became the world centre for the manufacturing of nails until the industry went into decline at the end of the 19th century.
Lying close to the M42 and M5 motorways Bromsgrove is an ideal location for the commuter for access to the remainder of the country. There is a railway station on the edge of the town at Aston Fields, offering services between Birmingham and Worcester. Sanders Park is located close to the town centre extending to over 40 acres and there are an excellent selection of schools in the town including the renowned private Bromsgrove School. There is a superb shopping centre in the centre of the town which now has a bypass skirting the edge and there is a Morrisons superstore in Aston Fields.
Bromsgrove is originally a market town and contains a variety of detached and semi detached homes dating from Victorian and Edwardian times. In the last 40 years there has been considerable further development with various modern estates offering a selection of semi detached and detached homes all around the town. Some of the many attractions include the well know Avoncroft Museum of Buildings and there is another museum near the centre of town, Bromsgrove Museum.
Other matters of note are the well known Bromsgrove rugby club and football club and A E Houseman has connection there and the Houseman society is based there, the author well know for "The Shropshire Lad".
