The village of Barnt Green lies at the northern tip of Worcestershire and just south of Birmingham. This attractive village grew in the early 20th century with the coming of the railways, and the village station still provides connections to Birmingham city centre and to Worcester. Barnt Green is popular with commuters working across the Midlands who benefit from the nearby M5 and M42 motorways heading north-south and eastwards towards the M40. Just to the north of the village is the Lickey Hills Country Park, whilst within the village and the nearby area are a primary school and successful cricket and sailing clubs.
The delightful village of Barnt Green nestles in the slopes of the wonderful Lickey Hills and Woods and lies close to the south west border of the City of Birmingham in the West Midlands, yet firmly in the County of Worcestershire.
Barnt Greens origins lie in the development of the railways and there is a fine selection of Victorian homes many from the renowned Arts and Crafts period.
The area retains a rural feel bordering the Lickey Hills and Woods and provides an environment for wildlife. Yet Birmingham City Centre is only 10 miles away and it provides an ideal location for commuters.
Northeast is Cofton Hackett and the Bittell Reservoirs, with the Birmingham and Worcester Canal running alongside. Southeast is the older village of Alvechurch and beyond that Redditch. Southwest is Blackwell and Bromsgrove.
Barnt Green railway station is on the Cross-City Line (Redditch to Lichfield) and the Birmingham to Worcester via Bromsgrove Line. The area is close to junctions on the M5 and M42 motorways, as well as the nearby A38.
In the centre of the village is a linear shopping street and small park. Other facilities include a sports club, a Sailing Club and St Andrew's First School is also based in the village. The well known Blackwell Golf Club lies not far away and Barnt Green Cricket Club has particular fame having made the finals of the Village Cricket competition at Lords when they were sponsored by Robert Oulsnam & Company.
