Northfield, on the southern outskirts of the city is perhaps most famous for being home to the Austin Rover car factory which was in the Longbridge Ward. Whilst the factory has since mostly been demolished since the collapse of MG Rover, there are plans to regenerate the site with a new town centre, shops, parks and homes which makes the area one to watch for potential good investment opportunities.
Aye Aye Captain!
Treasure Island Play Centre in Northfield has been running for 13 years and, as the name suggests, is pirate themed! The centre has a pirate ship themed framework which incorporates a two lane astra slide, tube slide, ball pools and a rope bridge. There is also an under 4’s section with smaller slides and equipment. Additional activities are available including a role play area with kitchen and playhouse, story books and a dolls house. If you’d rather relax while your kids play, there are plenty of seating arrangements for the parents too, not forgetting the varied and delicious menu when you or your children are feeling peckish.
On the Hunt for Treasure!
Keeping with the pirate theme, travel to nearby Bournville and take part in the treasure hunt themed walking treasure trail around Bournville. This Trail is approximately 2.2 miles long and takes 2 hours to complete, though of course it can be done at your own pace. These self-guided adventures are something a bit different to do outdoors with the children and as these are designed to challenge all ages from 6+ - the grown-ups will also need to get involved to solve all the clues for a chance to win some real treasure!
Get Fit, Keep Fit!
Northfield leisure centre has undergone a rebuild and modernisation that started in May this year. The new, purpose-built facility includes a 25-metre swimming pool as well as a teaching pool. The centre also runs intensive learn to swim classes in half term for new starters of any ages as well as more general children’s holiday play activities.
