Mortgage figures 'good news for house buyers'

The passing of a mortgage products milestone last week should be
welcomed by those seeking property for sale in Manchester and
elsewhere, it has been suggested.
Mortgages channel manager Hannah-Mercedes Skenfield of
moneysupermarket.com said it is "good news for buyers" that 2,500
mortgage deals are available for the first time since May 2009 and
noted that the growth in the number of products appears sustainable
after three successive monthly increases.
"Passing the 2,500 barrier does suggest that those looking for a
mortgage are finding more and more choice - and where there is
choice, there is competition," she commented.
Ms Skenfield added that while there is still a long way to go
before the market returns to pre-recession levels, when there were
more than 30,000 mortgages available, the figures show that the UK
is "moving in the right direction".
Her remarks follow the predictions she made for 2010 at the end of
last year, when she indicated her belief that the mortgage market
will be similar over the next 12 months to how it was in
2009.
